Message from the President – A Time for Change

Dear Members of the NCMA Tysons Chapter:

Today I share a message that I recently sent to our Board of Directors and Advisors.  As outgoing President, I hope that this message resonates with each of you and that our new direction will be of interest to you and provide learning opportunities for us all through the new forum and initiative.

I write to you today with an obligation to speak out on recent events.  The senseless killing of George Floyd and many others has sparked outrage but more importantly a call to action for justice and equality in America.

As an African-American wife, mother, daughter, and sister, these injustices impact me both on a personal and professional level everyday. They also impact you.  I believe it is important to be part of a community where we can share our experiences and discuss issues faced in a respectful and productive manner amongst our friends and colleagues. To that end, I am making some changes.

I would like to thank our Immediate Past President, Mrs. Angel Davis, for her vision and leading us with the Women In Leadership Initiative where we first began these discussions 4 years ago.    A special thank you to all who have supported WIL and to the Committee members who contributed to its success!

It is my honor to announce that NCMA Tysons will be disbanding the Women In Leadership Committee and instituting the Committee on Inclusion and Diversity.    The Inclusion and Diversity Committee will serve as a forum to discuss many of the issues impacting our lives and workplace and be a vehicle to implement the necessary changes needed for us to thrive as a society.  I intentionally placed Inclusion before Diversity because I believe that individuals must feel and be included before diversity transpires.

You might wonder why now with only a few weeks left in the program year and my response is that action is needed today.  I have listened to my heart and our members and there is much to be accomplished during our plenary sessions over the next few months.  If you are interested in supporting the vision of this committee or would like to share either personal stories or ideas on how we approach implementation of new programming, please respond to me with your expression of interest by Friday, June 26th via email at
